From George Floyd to Abraham Lincoln

Posted on June 1, 2020June 1, 2020 by ScottSoriano

Whenever a police kills a Black or Latinx person, we play by all the rules. We write letters to public officials, we go to community meetings, we dialogue with the police, we work on political campaigns, we vote…and we protest. News reports emphasize “peaceful” as if peaceful protests aren’t the norm. Often the protests are met with violence by the police and things escalate. No matter that police are usually the ones that up the ultra-vi, conservatives, centrists and liberals lecture protesters on how to act. They tell protesters to emulate Gandhi and MLK, not knowing dick about either, and rarely ever protesting anything themselves. The King and Gandhi name drops often lead to people slinging Abe Lincoln’s “a house divided” as if Abe was speaking on proper etiquette. I riff on all of that and more on 48 Hills.
